When conversations of the Founders of Hip-hop are being had, it unequivocally begins in the Bronx and was held down between the Bronx and Manhattan with respect to the rappers who were at the forefront of the movement.Thanks to one of the biggest hip hop promoter’s at the time, Mike & Dave Productions Of Harlem New York, who recruited talent from the surrounding 5 Boroughs, Brooklyn and Queen’s proved to be contenders in the art of hip hop and proved they were able to hold their own and compete with the big dogs. This was long before Run DMC, LL Cool J and the emergence of Russell Simmons. School yard battles park jams shed a light on a Queens Rapper named “Sweety G”.

Glenn “Sweety G” Toby was born in Brooklyn and raised in Queens. He was among the first emcees to gain the respect of the great Rappers and DJ's. He gave validity to the borough of Queens along with the likes of The Disco Twins, DJ Divine of Infinity Machine and DJ Understanding his DJ from Cipher Sounds to name a few. “Sweety G” quickly gained the respect of his peers. His performances and reputation caught the attention of Mike & Dave Productions, who booked him to perform at the biggest and most popular venues in New York City, The Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens such as the world famous Harlem World in Manhattan, Club Fantasia In Queens and countless legendary clubs and dance halls.

With a rapid spitfire flow, “Sweety G” gained his reputation by being an emcee that was impossible to beat in a battle. Coming up battling with and against fellow Queens’s natives they paved an undeniable path for future artists from the area to get on scene. As a Hip-Hop pioneer “Sweety G” and his crew were responsible for creating a style that groups including Stetsasonic and Heavy D and the Boyz would become famous for. Sweety G was performing over R&B and melodic rhythms versus the typical break beats that most rappers delivered rhymes over. By 1979 he was working with some of hip hop's major recording artists including;Grand Master Flash and The Furious 5, Doug E. Fresh, Biz Markie, The CrashCrew, The Cold Crush 4, Fearless Four, Dr. Jekyll and Mr Hyde,Positive K, Kool Moe Dee of Treacherous 3, Kurtis Blow, Spyder D, and Jimmy Spicer (SuperRhymes) Kool Klye The Starchild, as well as up and coming rap groups.

"Sweety G” is credited for contributing to the revolution of urban music in the early 1980′s in New York City. Sweety G developed a love for songwriting and record production, that would lead him on the path to creating music as well as rhymes. As a record producer “Sweety G’s” ability to intertwine the dance style of disco melodies with the rawness of Hip-Hop allowed him to create music that was cutting edge and again revolutionary, at a time when the genre was just finding its voice.With his own Glenn’s Grooves Production Company, from Hip Hop to House, Soul and Funk to Pop, “Sweety G” created hits for a wide range of artists including: Cultural Vibe, Sybil, Melba Moore, Positive-K, and a host of national television and radio commercials throughout his lIfe as a musician, producer and entertainment executive. Transitioning his staid career in music to business, he knew early on that his calling was beyond pure entertainment and began in the sports management field. These days he stays relevant as a successful sports and talent manager. Sweety G is a Philanthropist that gives back through the efforts of his Book Bank Foundation established in 1998.
